DART receives "Public Sector Agency of the Year 2002" Award

DART honored for economic opportunity programs

DART has received the "Public Sector Agency of the Year 2002" Award of the Spotlighting Excellence: The E Awards presented by the Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Business Development Council, Inc. (D/FW MBDC).

At its annual awards gala, the D/FW MBDC recognized more than 60 organizations and individuals for their outstanding contributions to the development and growth of minority- and women-owned businesses. DART was the first recipient of the public sector award that was introduced this year.

"DART is the winner because of its community relationships and improving access to economic opportunity for minority enterprises," said Margo J. Posey, president of D/FW MBDC. "Since its inception, DART has been committed to developing and implementing an effective and efficient disadvantaged, minority and women-owned business enterprise program."

DART's diversity and economic opportunity programs helped the agency award more than $40 million in contracts in fiscal year 2001 to disadvantaged, minority and women-owned business enterprises. By the end of the year, DART will have conducted more than 450 vendor sessions on the procedures for competing and bidding for purchases and contracts at DART.

"Public agencies play a vital role in the economic development of minority business enterprises," says Gloria Dixon, DART vice president for Diversity and Economic Opportunity. "The leadership team at DART is dedicated to promoting contracting opportunities to minority contractors, and this regional award strengthens our commitment."
