I-30 HOV speeds commutes

New lane on Tom Landry Highway set to open

Commuters who share the ride on I-30 West (Tom Landry Highway) will benefit with quicker trips after the opening of Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) new Managed High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane on the afternoon of Monday, July 6.

With the completion of nine new miles, between Loop 12 and Sylvan Avenue, west of Downtown Dallas, the region will have 84 miles of HOV lanes. The I-30 West lane runs from Sylvan to the Dallas/Tarrant County line.

The new lane, which operates westbound only, will be available from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is open to vehicles with two or more occupants, buses, motorcycles and other eligible vehicles. Hybrid vehicles with single occupants are not allowed in area HOV lanes.

The current DART HOV network supports more than 150,000 commuter trips each weekday and plays a vital part of the region's ongoing effort to reduce congestion, automobile emissions and improve air quality. Information on the network is available at
